授業の到達目標
To further strengthen reading fluency and writing skills in English.  

授業の内容
Through this course, students will improve their reading comprehension skills using practical materials from texts, books, newspapers, media sources etc. Students will develop their skills in writing summaries of and reactions to reading selections. Students will also write to give their opinions on topics introduced in class. Paragraph and essay writing skills will be reinforced through writing assignments.

授業計画
第1週Sociology: Before class students should complete all of Unit 1 activities (Pages 2-30). In class students will discuss the unit video, two readings on the topic, and learn dictionary skills.
第2週Sociology: Students should review their work before class. In class, students will learn how to organize and develop an essay, practice using restrictive relative clauses, and begin writing a three-paragraph analysis essay.
第3週Consumer Behaviour: Before class students should finish their analysis essays, and complete all of Unit two activities (Pages 32 - 61). In class students will discuss the unit video, two readings on the topic, and learn vocabulary skills.
第4週Consumer Behaviour: Students should review their work before class. In class, students will practice using definite and indefinite articles, and begin writing a descriptive essay.
第5週Developmental Psychology: Before class students should finish their descriptive essays, and complete all of Unit three activities (Pages 62 - 91). In class students will discuss the unit video, two readings on the topic, and learn vocabulary skills.
第6週Developmental Psychology: Students should review their work before class. In class, students will learn how to vary sentence patterns, practice using past perfect and past continuous, and begin writing a narrative essay.
第7週Anthropology: Before class students should finish their narrative essays, and complete all of Unit four activities (Pages 92 - 121). In class students will discuss the unit video, two readings on the topic, and learn vocabulary skills.
第8週Anthropology: Students should review their work before class. In class, students will practice using subordinators and transitions, and begin writing a compare and contrast essay.
第9週Nutritional Science: Before class students should finish their compare and contrast essays, and complete all of Unit five activities (Pages 122 - 151). In class students will discuss the unit video, two readings on the topic, and learn vocabulary skills.
第10週Nutritional Science: Students should review their work before class. In class, students will practice using passive voice, and begin writing a cause and effect essay.
第11週Education: Before class students should finish their cause and effect essays, and complete all of Unit six activities (Pages 152 - 181). In class students will discuss the unit video, two readings on the topic, and learn vocabulary skills.
第12週Education: Students should review their work before class. In class, students will practice using reported speech, and begin writing a summary.
第13週Psychology: Before class students should finish their opinion essays, and complete all of Unit eight activities (Pages 210 - 237). In class students will discuss the unit video, two readings on the topic, and learn vocabulary skills.
第14週Psychology: Students should review their work before class. In class, students will practice using adverb clauses of concession, and begin writing a persuasive essay.
第15週Review: Before class students should finish their persuasive essays, and prepare for an end of semester vocabulary quiz.
