|副題||Understanding Cultural Differences|
The goal of this course is to develop students' ability to read academic materials in English on topics of cultural differences, to discuss them, and to write research papers about them in English.
In this seminar we will use materials in English related to the field of intercultural and cross-cultural communication which students have an interest in based on their graduate study. Each week we will read what has been selected and prepare to discuss the contents in class. The readings will be challenging, and students should expect to spend time in preparation outside of class. Students will write their thoughts, impressions, opinions, and questions in a journal each week as they prepare for class discussion, and will write a mid-term and a final paper on topics related to our study. Students will take an active part in choosing, presenting, and discussing the selected material and related topics in class. Of course, the entire seminar will be conducted only in English.
Students should expect to spend at least 3 hours each week in preparation for each class.
Grades will be based on attendance and participation in class (30%), presentations (30%), and mid-term and final papers (40%).
